Operation Christmas Child, sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse, which is the world’s largest Christmas project, is accepting donations from participating churches in the area to benefit less fortunate children all over the world. The international Christian relief organization, headed by Franklin Graham, collects gift-filled shoe boxes and delivers them in the name of Jesus Christ to children living in desperate situations around the world.
“It is a non-denominational children’s ministry to give hurting children all over the world a simple gift,” said Dorothy Ogg, Weakley County chairperson for Operation Christmas Child. “I look forward to this every year.”
According to Mrs. Ogg, local volunteers are busy preparing to receive donations of gift-filled shoe boxes for needy children. She states there were 2,993 boxes donated locally last year.
“This year, with the public’s help, we hope to greatly surpass that number,” she said.
